The Michigan Chapter Discussion List (SLA-CMI) is the electronic discussion group of the Michigan Chapter of the Special Librarians Association. This list is to provide an electronic forum for discussion and communication among SLA – Michigan members.

Why should I subscribe?

The Michigan Chapter Discussion List will be your connection to chapter members.  It will:

• keep you informed about all upcoming Michigan chapter meetings and events
• get you in the loop about SLA International events – conferences and accommodations
• let you know the latest job openings in the information field
• be a place where you can post help wanted!
• be a group of people you can call on when looking for information – how to locate a special report, what others have done in preparing policies for the library or company, what others have experienced with specific software

Why should I post?

Items should be of interest to members of the Michigan Chapter of SLA.  These might include:

• discussions of topics of interest to information professionals and special librarians — everything from day-to-day problems to issues that pertain in an information society and the future of librarianship
• announcements of Chapter meetings and other activities
• sharing of Michigan SLA committee information
• job announcements
• continuing education program/opportunities
• member news
• announcements forwarded from SLA Association Office or from other SLA Chapters/Divisions

Advertisements are not appropriate.  However, notices of information sessions about products are welcome as are all educational programs related to information studies.

How do I post a message?

To post to the MI Chapter Discussion List, you must be a member of the list.  If you are a member and wish to post, send an e-mail message to:
SLA-CMI@lists.sla.org

Please include your name and contact information in the message.

Optional Web interface

The Lyris system offers a web interface for posting a message.  To access this option, go to lists.sla.org.  To log in, you will need to know your e-mail address.  Once logged in, you can view the lists that you have subscribed to, view posted messages on these lists, and change your settings.

Board members

Officers and Committee members of the Michigan Chapter also belong to a discussion list (SLA-BD-CMI) designed for communication related to chapter business.  This list is provided exclusively for use by Board members and is populated automatically by the Webmaster each program year.

To post to the MI Chapter Board Discussion List, you must be a member of the list.  If you are a member and wish to post, send an e-mail message to: SLA-BD-CMI@lists.sla.org.  If you wish to post a message without joining the list or if you have other questions regarding this list, please send a message to the MI Chapter Discussion List Coordinator at seewaldj@umd.umich.edu.
